In the summer of 2006, I moved with my family to the Golan Heights, the northeastern most region in Israel. Growing up in Long Island and immigrating to Israel in the 1990s, I have lived most of my life in suburbia; however, at the young age of 28, I embarked on a new chapter of life, a new adventure, a new type of living – country livin’. To board or not to board

The view from the top of the Golan HeightsThat is the question.

In terms of precipitation, February has been a good month to the Golan Heights. I wrote earlier how there is snow on Mount Hermon, and this past week the weather was stunning.

This made my buddy from work, Robbie, ask me if I wanted to take a day off and go snowboarding.

Skiing and boarding on Mount HermonMy heart was torn. On the one hand, the Hermon Ski Resort is so close to my house - probably 45-55 minutes - but on the other hand, I felt like I couldn't spare a vacation day.

And then there was the cost. At 400 Shekels (rental and lift ticket), it was an expensive proposition. And gone are the days of being single and spendthrift, like when I bought myself a snowboard!

Robbie the BoarderBut that reminds me, would the next family member that comes for a visit be so kind and bring my snowboard with them. And if anyone wants to sponsor me - I'll put your name on my snowboard, please contact me.

Robbie: thanks for the pictures and in 2008 and I'm with you!

Much respect my friend!

And why wait to 2008? If we're lucky, we'll have snow in late 2007 ... :-)

Robbie: what a holy blessing! 2007 would be welcomed very much...
